Fostering Well-Being, Building a Sustainable Future

Building a sustainable future also means taking care of our mental health and our relationships with others. Through its educational initiatives, the Albatross Foundation aims to help young people get to know themselves better, build their self-confidence, and cultivate respect and kindness. Because a better world also begins with the way we take care of ourselves, others, and our planet.

Why Should We Rethink Our Approach to Sustainable Development?

The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline a future that is more just, more inclusive, and more respectful of our planet. But to meet these challenges, it is not enough to transform our environment; we must also change the way we think, understand one another, and live together.

In light of growing mental health challenges, social tensions, and our increasing disconnect from nature, the Albatross Foundation aims to place self-respect, empathy, and kindness at the heart of young people’s education.

Toward a 18th Sustainable Development Goal: Respect and Compassion for All

Respect and Goodwill for Humanity and Beyond — Respect and goodwill toward humanity and beyond.

Through this initiative, Albatross proposes the creation of an 18th cross-cutting SDG, designed to strengthen the 17 existing goals by making respect and kindness the common values underpinning all of our commitments.

This vision is based on a simple belief: a truly sustainable future is built as much through our relationships with others as through our relationship with the planet. It calls on each of us to recognize our responsibility toward ourselves, others, and all living things.

Educational projects to support young people’s well-being: Finding Happy and Gaia Voice

Written by Professor Ellen Langer, a psychology professor at Harvard and a pioneer in mindfulness research, *Finding Happy* is an illustrated book for children ages 10 and up.

Presented at UNESCO in Paris in 2025, it encourages them to build their self-confidence, appreciate what they have, and cultivate kindness toward themselves and others.

This experience continues with Gaia Voice, which allows users to interact with Ellen Langer’s digital twin—developed with support from Delphi AI— to explore her thoughts on mindfulness in an interactive way.

Today, Finding Happy is also exploring new horizons, with the first steps toward a possible animated film adaptation.

Change also begins with the way we view the world

Taking care of our planet also means learning to take care of ourselves and others. Mental health, human relationships, and respect for all living things are all essential aspects of a sustainable future.

Through education, research, and new technologies, Albatross aims to encourage young people to develop their self-confidence, open-mindedness, and ability to act with respect and kindness.

Because building a better world also starts with the way we choose to live together in it.

Let’s work together to make this vision a reality

The Albatross Foundation invites everyone to learn about its initiatives, support its proposal for a future SDG 18, and contribute to a society where respect and kindness are central.
