As part of Agriculture Day, on Thursday March 13, 2025, young Unicité civic service volunteers took part in the construction of a dry hedge in Servan’s garden.
An ecological and educational project
The afternoon began with an explanation of the importance of dry hedges for biodiversity and soil protection. Volunteers then got actively involved in the construction of two dry hedges.

Steps in building a dry hedge
First, six holes were dug to form the base of the hedge, in the style of a wicker fence. Wooden stakes were placed in these holes to hold the branches and leaves in place in successive layers.

This type of structure protects the soil, promotes biodiversity and serves as a refuge for small animals and insects, while acting as a barrier against wind and erosion.

The young people at Unicité showed great enthusiasm and commitment to this ecological project, helping to improve the garden’s natural environment.
